Monaco equalisers
Marseille needed maximum points to retake possession of third spot and they began in hungry mood, Samir Nasri firing a low drive beyond Flavio Roma on 28 minutes after running on to a Charles Kaboré through-ball. The visitors fully deserved their lead at the half, but were stunned by an Ignacio González header ten minutes after the restart. And despite Taye Taiwo lifting Marseille's spirits again by registering six minutes later, Jerko Leko responded almost immediately to restore parity.
Cissé decider
Instead of losing hope, however, Erik Gerets' men kept looking for a winner and found it in the 78th minute when Djibril Cissé collected a Mamadou Niang back-heel and blasted in from close range. The result sealed a place in next year's UEFA Champions League for second-placed FC Girondins de Bordeaux, and it is sure to inspire Marseille to join them. After all, memories are still fresh of the 2-1 victory at Monaco last season that helped them ensure their participation this year.
Nancy regrets
Now down to fourth, Nancy will be kicking themselves after letting their lead slip in northern France. Pascal Berenguer put the Lorraine outfit ahead with ten minutes gone, only for Johan Audel to level for the hosts soon after the break.
