UEFA has banned SL Benfica forward Óscar Cardozo for three European club competition matches after he was sent off in his team's UEFA Cup Round of 16 first leg against Getafe CF in Lisbon on 6 March.

Ninth minute
The UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body heard that Cardozo was dismissed in the ninth minute of the match, which Getafe won 2-1 on their way to a 3-1 aggregate victory, for striking an opponent in the face with his elbow while challenging for the ball.

Improper conduct
In addition, Benfica were fined €6,372 (CHF10,000) for the improper conduct of their supporters at the same game, after fans set off flares and threw them on to the pitch in the later stages. Appeals may be lodged against the decisions within three days of receipt of the grounds for the verdict.
