FC Girondins de Bordeaux kept the French title race alive as two Fernando Cavenaghi goals saw off SM Caen while a late double sent Paris Saint-Germain FC to a damaging defeat.
Cavenaghi double
Bordeaux moved to within four points of Ligue 1 leaders Olympique Lyonnais, who could only draw 1-1 with Stade Rennais FC on Saturday, as they avenged a 5-0 defeat in the reverse fixture at home against Caen. Cavenaghi deflected Brazilian midfielder Wendel's free-kick in after 52 minutes and scored a penalty 14 minutes from time to make the result safe although defender Jérémy Sorbon struck one back for the visitors in the final minute.
PSG woe
Struggling PSG were just six minutes from victory in the late game at home to OGC Nice yet contrived to end the game with nothing – a result that sees them stuck in the bottom three. Bakary Koné had sent the visitors in a goal up at half-time but a much-needed win for Paul Le Guen's side appeared likely when Pegguy Luyindula and Pauleta turned the game on its head.
Late drama
However, Ivorian striker Koné added his second with six minutes remaining and, just three minutes later, PSG were left heartbroken as Ederson struck to send Nice into the top six. PSG, RC Strasbourg and RC Lens all have 35 points with the latter the only one outside of the relegation zone.
