French League Cup winners Paris Saint-Germain FC have been thrown out of next season's competition because of the offensive conduct of their supporters during the final victory over RC Lens.
Insulting to Lens
The French Professional League took the decision after PSG fans displayed a banner insulting people from the north of the country – their team beat northern club Lens 2-1 on 29 March to lift the trophy. The league's disciplinary body said that PSG were responsible for the actions of their supporters. The banner, which referred to certain serious social problems as northern traits, was considered to be deeply offensive. An appeal against the ruling is possible.
