Homegrown talent
The 23-year-old, whose previous deal was set to expire in 2010, has signed on until the summer of 2012. Born in Eindhoven, Bakkal graduated from PSV's youth academy and went on to make his first-team debut in the 2003/04 season. To gain experience he was then loaned out to FC Den Bosch, FC Eindhoven and FC Twente between 2004 and 2007, before returning to PSV last summer after winning the UEFA European Under-21 Championship on home soil with the Jong Oranje. Bakkal was an integral part of the PSV squad which won its fourth successive league title this season, scoring eight goals in 31 appearances as well as making four starts in the UEFA Champions League.
