FC Artmedia Petržalka won their second Slovakian Cup as an injury-time goal earned a 1-0 victory over FC Spartak Trnava in Zilina.
Penalties averted
The hero for Superliga leaders Artmedia was substitute Zbyněk Pospěch, who met Ján Kozák's cross in the 91st minute as the game looked to be headed for overtime. Spartak Trnava, cup winners on five occasions, were often the better side in a tight contest but struggled to create chances against a solid Artmedia defence. And it was the eventual victors who came closest to prevailing late on as Juraj Piroška wasted two clear opportunities.
Double vision
Artmedia coach Vladimír Weiss said: "It was a typical cup final and, in these games, one goal is enough. Maybe we were lucky but our experience pulled us through." Spartak Trnava coach Josef Mazura agreed. "We had our chances to win but Artmedia were more clinical. It's a pity we missed our moment but my players did well." Artmedia – four points clear of second-placed MŠK Žilina in the league with six games remaining – will now attempt to clinch the double, although Weiss is taking nothing for granted. "It will be difficult but we want more silverware."
