Huge lead
Marsaxlokk FC went into the weekend second in the table, but their 2-0 defeat by Birkirkara FC saw them swap places with their opponents and left Valletta with a seven-point lead at the top of the table with just two games to go. Nigerian forward Frank Temile gave Valletta an early lead but was later sent off. Local striker Gilbert Agius then scored again for Valletta in the second half to leave Paul Zammit's side ten points clear of Birkirkara. It is their first title success since taking their 18th crown in 2000/01.
