RSC Anderlecht secured a UEFA Champions League second qualifying round berth after finishing second in Belgium's Eerste Klasse by winning 2-1 at RAEC Mons on the final day of the season.

Sterchele tragedy
Stanislav Vlček and Jelle Van Damme were on target to ensure they finished seven points behind champions R. Standard de Liège, who won 2-0 at KRC Genk in their final match. The weekend was overshadowed by the death of Club Brugge KV striker François Sterchele in a car crash in the early hours of Thursday morning. His team-mates started their match at home to KVC Westerlo wearing 23, the jersey number of Sterchele, on their chest.

Akpala honour
They honoured their former colleague by earning their biggest home win of the season with Ivan Leko (19), Wesley Sonck (40, 89) and Brecht Capon (55) on target and will play in the UEFA Cup next season. R. Charleroi SC striker Joseph Akpala became the league's top goalscorer with 18 goals, scoring for the final time in a 3-1 defeat by fourth-placed Cercle Brugge KSV, while K. Sint-Truidense VV and FC Molenbeek Brussels Strombeek were already certain of relegation from the top-flight.
