FC Internazionale Milano secured their third straight Italian title with a 2-0 win at Parma FC, while ACF Fiorentina qualified for the UEFA Champions League on the final day of the Serie A season.

Ibrahimović double
Inter began their final fixture a point clear of AS Roma and knew that a win, against a side who had to claim victory to have any chance of avoiding relegation, would see them retain their crown. But the champions struggled at rain-soaked Parma until the introduction of Zlatan Ibrahimović on 50 minutes. The Swedish striker went close immediately before breaking the deadlock on 61 minutes with a low raking shot from outside the penalty area. The title was sewn up 17 minutes later when Maicon drove forwards and clipped a cross to the far post that Ibrahimović volleyed in.

Catania saved
That rendered Roma's result at Calcio Catania meaningless in the title race, but the 1-1 draw between those sides did have implications at the bottom of the table. Mirko Vučinić had beaten two men and scored from a tight angle to give Roma an early lead but Catania, aware that Empoli FC were about to plunge them into the bottom three with a 2-1 win against relegated AS Livorno Calcio, saved themselves with an 81st-minute close-range effort from Jorge Martínez.

Viola joy
Fiorentina will join Inter, Roma and Juventus in the UEFA Champions League thanks to a 75th-minute winner from Pablo Daniel Osvaldo at Torino FC. Anything less than the three points would have seen them usurped by AC Milan after their 4-1 success at home to an Udinese Calcio side who will join the Rossoneri and UC Sampdoria in the UEFA Cup. Elsewhere, Atalanta BC beat Genoa CFC 2-0, Cagliari Calcio drew 2-2 with Reggina Calcio, AC Siena played out the same scoreline with US Città di Palermo and S.S. Lazio edged SSC Napoli 2-1.
