Porto persuade Pedro Emanuel to stay

Members

Portuguese champions FC Porto have renewed Pedro Emanuel's contract to keep the 33-year-old defender at the Estádio do Dragão until the summer of 2009.

Fresh contract
The centre-back's existing terms were due to expire at the end of the season but Porto were keen to keep their captain, who made 19 appearances as the team claimed a third successive Liga title. The former Boavista FC man, who joined Porto ahead of the 2002/03 campaign, was thrilled with the new deal, saying: "This shows the confidence the club continues to have in me, and I'm delighted." Meanwhile, Porto's Uruguay full-back Fucile had surgery on a left shoulder injury on Monday, the day after playing all 120 minutes of the 2-0 Portuguese Cup final defeat by Sporting Clube de Portugal.
