Artmedia surge over Slovak finish line

Members

FC Artmedia Petržalka claimed the Slovakian title with two games to spare as Zbyněk Pospěch scored a hat-trick in a 5-4 win at FC Senec on Tuesday night.

Decisive victory
A hat-trick from Zbyněk Pospěch earned Artmedia an absorbing victory at Senec and their second ever title, as second-placed MŠK Žilina – the deposed champions – lost 3-1 at FC Spartak Trnava. It left 2004/05 title-winners Artmedia eleven points clear at the top of the table and ready to return to the first qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League next season.

Late penalty
Title success completes a domestic double for Vladimír Weiss's side, who won the Slovakian Cup two weeks ago, with Pospěch scoring the only goal of the match against Spartak Trnava in added time. Last night's win against Senec was no less dramatic, with Artmedia leading 3-1 and 4-2 in the rain before being hauled back to 4-4 six minutes from time. Captain Ján Kozák scored the winner in the 89th minute from the penalty spot.
