Contrasting fortunes
The Formuladeildin resumed last Wednesday after a three-week break with EB/Streymur taking on NSÍ. Having held a comfortable lead for much of the season, EB/Streymur had taken their eye off the ball, losing their last three games before the summer interlude, while NSÍ had roared to within five points of the league leaders with a run of five wins in their previous six games.
Driving seat
Had NSÍ beaten EB/Streymur, that lead would have been down to two, but as it was, two second-half goals put the league leaders back in the driving seat, and a 3-0 win against Skála Ítróttarfelag on Sunday saw them extend their lead at the top of the table back to eight points, with B36 Tórshavn taking over in second place after NSÍ lost 4-2 against KÍ Klaksvík.
Home advantage
With ten games to go, it is hard to see EB/Streymur throwing the tie away. The side that lost 4-0 on aggregate to Manchester City FC in the UEFA Cup first qualifying round play six of their remaining games at their Vid Margáir home where they have yet to drop a point this season, and boast the league's top scorer in 14-goal Arnbjørn Hansen.
Justified caution
However, coach Sigfrídur Clementsen was wary of triumphalism, saying: "I shall tell you whether we can become champions after the 27th [and final] round has been played." His caution is understandable. EB/Streymur led the rankings by seven points with four games of the 2006 season remaining only to lose the title to HB Tórhsavn in one of the most dramatic ends to a Faroese season ever.

Skála defiance
B68's new 34-year-old Danish forward Brian Andresen, signed from Danish side Glostrup IF, scored twice as his side beat ÍF to move five points clear of the relegation places, but even rock-bottom Skála Ítróttarfelag are not losing hope. After the loss to EB/Streymur coach John Petersen said: "We are on the right track. If the players keep believing we're going to make it, then we will. I'm sure of that."
