'The right man'
The 38-year-old Berg, capped 100 times by Norway, represented Lillestrøm as a player in 1992/93 prior to spells at Blackburn Rovers FC, Manchester United FC and Rangers FC. "Berg is an old Lillestrøm man and we need a strong coach now," said club president Per Mathisen. "We think he is the right man for the job." Lillestrøm are 12th in the 14-team Norwegian table while Lyn are fourth.

Troubled campaign
The club have been without a coach since Tom Nordlie resigned earlier this summer, with Erland Johnsen and Frode Grodås set to function as caretaker coaches until Berg arrives at the start of 2009. The club's director of football, Berg's former Norway team-mate Jan Åge Fjørtoft, has also tendered his resignation with his contract at the club set to expire in December.
