Denouncing racism
The action was organised by UEFA, its partners, the Football Against Racism in Europe (FARE) network and FC Solothurn, who hosted the match. Inspired by a similar campaign from the UEFA EURO 2008™ semi-finals, both teams lined up with a banner carrying the slogan "Football Against Racism". Both team captains wore special armbands and read a message denouncing racism and intolerance.
Common passion
"I and my team-mates wish to make clear that we stand against all forms of discrimination," the message said. "We have seen at EURO 2008 how football can bring people together to enjoy our common passion whatever our religion, nationality or skin colour. Please join us to Unite Against Racism."
