Club Atlético de Madrid built on their UEFA Champions League triumph at PSV Eindhoven by winning 4-0 at the Estadio Vicente Calderón for the third time in as many matches, but RCD Espanyol continue to set the pace in La Liga after a 1-1 draw at home to Getafe CF.

In-form Agüero
Confidence was brimming in Javier Aguirre's ranks after FC Schalke 04 and Málaga CF had both suffered four-goal reverses in the Spanish capital this season and Sergio Agüero, who scored twice in the 3-0 win in the Netherlands on Tuesday, broke the deadlock against RC Recreativo de Huelva after eight minutes to extend his scintillating start to the campaign.

Pongolle pair
Maniche doubled their advantage on 53 minutes with a low right-footed shot inside the near post from 20 metres after the visitors had failed to clear a corner, and that sparked a period of even better football from the hosts. Miguel surged down the left wing and cut the ball back for Florent Sinama Pongolle to make it 3-0 against the side he departed in the summer, and the French striker made it three goals in as many league matches when he drifted effortlessly past César Arzo before slotting in the fourth.

Getafe point
Espanyol conceded their first goal of the season two minutes after half-time when Joffre Guerrón was brought down in the penalty area by Grégory Béranger. Manu converted the spot-kick, but the Barcelona-based outfit laid siege to the visitors' goal and were rewarded when Sergio Sánchez poked in the equaliser eleven minutes later. That effort was enough to keep them on top of the standings while Getafe remain unbeaten with five points from their three matches.
