Double act
Hoffenheim, who are in their first season in the German top flight, were inspired by Bosnia-Herzegovnian international striker Vedad Ibišević, who struck twice – opening the scoring after five minutes and getting his second just after half-time – to take his season tally to six in only five league games. His countryman, Sejad Salihović, had doubled the home side's lead in the 25th minute and Carlos Eduardo made it four midway through the second half. Serbian-born teenager Neven Subotic scored Dortmund's late consolation.
Stuttgart succcess
Victory gave Hoffenheim ten points from five games and left them just a point behind new leaders FC Schalke 04, who beat Eintracht Frankfurt 1-0 on Saturday. VfB Stuttgart are on the same total thanks to a 3-1 home win over Karlsruher SC on Sunday. The visitors took the lead after eight minutes through Sebastian Freis but Sami Khedira ensured the hosts went into the break on level terms. Mario Gómez put Stuttgart into the lead after 68 minutes and Ciprian Marica rounded off the scoring late on. Hamburg, needing a win to reclaim top spot, were instead overwhelmed by a Wolfsburg side who were quick out of the blocks, Ashkan Dejagah (15), Alexander Madlung (23) and Grafite (28) scoring the goals.
