AC Milan picked up their first victory of the season with a 4-1 home success over S.S. Lazio who slip from first to third with Juventus and FC Internazionale Milano the new leaders in Serie A.
Welcome win
Milan had lost their first two games of the season, but this welcome win raised them to 15th in the table. Veteran Dutch midfielder Clarence Seedorf gave the Rossoneri the lead in the eighth minute but Mauro Zárate – with his fourth goal of the season – levelled matters before the half-hour mark. Gianluca Zambrotta helped Milan retake the lead soon after, though, and Pato made it three just after the break. Kaká rounded off the scoring on the hour to complete an impressive triumph.
Inter impress
In the day's earlier games, champions Inter won 3-1 at Torino FC, with Maicon and Zlatan Ibrahimović registering after a Marco Pisano own goal had handed them the lead. Elvis Abbruscato scored Torino's only goal at the right end 14 minutes from time. Amauri was the only player to register as Juve won 1-0 at Cagliari Calcio while Alberto Gilardino's strike saw fellow UEFA Champions League contenders ACF Fiorentina beat Bologna FC 1-0 at home.
Sampdoria denied
SSC Napoli held on for a 0-0 draw at Udinese Calcio despite the dismissal of defender Fabiano Santacroce, and another side with UEFA Cup ambitions, UC Sampdoria, also drew, with Antonio Langella scoring the leveler for AC Chievo Verona after Daniele Franceschini had broken the deadlock for the Genoa side. Elsewhere, US Città di Palermo beat Sampdoria's local rivals Genoa CFC 2-1 and US Lecce drew 1-1 against AC Siena.
