FH pride
"We are the best team, there's no doubt about it and I'm very proud of my boys," said Gudjónsson, whose side looked to have spurned their chances with a 4-1 defeat at Fram Reykjavík on 17 September. That put Keflavík in the driving seat, but FH resurrected their hopes with a 3-2 win against their rivals last weekend and took the title by one point as Keflavík succumbed 2-1 at home against Fram. "After losing to Fram, the match against Keflavík was all or nothing," added Gudjónsson. "Not to mention our pride in not letting Keflavík receive the trophy in our own ground. Winning 3-2 with a last-minute goal was the best outcome for us and after that my men were really up for it. There was no looking back."
Hungry mood
With their coach aiming to celebrate championship honours in his debut season, FH began at Fylkir in hungry mood. Their hosts resisted stoutly, but Matthías Vilhjálmsson finally opened the scoring after 53 minutes before Gudmundur Sævarsson made sure of the outcome late on. Keflavík failed to gain the win they needed to stay top and take the crown, despite breaking the deadlock through Símun Samuelsen on 54 minutes. Substitute Almarr Ormarsson equalised with his first touch for Fram before Hjálmar Thórarinsson struck the decider with eleven minutes left.
'Very sad result'
"There is no secret that this is a very, very sad result," commented Keflavík coach Kristján Gudmundsson. "We were not good in the first half, got a little better at the start of the second half, but after our goal it was like we forgot how to attack. I think our success this summer is just the beginning – Keflavík are now one of the big teams in Iceland and that's how it is going to stay."
