Reign over
Curbishley, 50, led the team to two wins out of three Premier League games this season but today decided to end his 21-month tenure at the Boleyn Ground. A statement from the London club said: "We can confirm that we have accepted Alan Curbishley's resignation as we feel it is in the interests of both parties. We wish Alan all the success in the future. A shortlist of candidates is being drawn up and an announcement will be made in due course about the new West Ham United manager." First-team coach Kevin Keen has been named as caretaker manager just as he was prior to Curbishley's appointment.
Charlton spell
Former West Ham and Birmingham City FC midfield player Curbishley was appointed to the helm in December 2006 after having ended a successful 15-year spell at Charlton Athletic FC the previous summer. He helped to keep West Ham in England's top division with a final-day win against champions Manchester United FC at Old Trafford, before his side finished the 2007/08 campaign in tenth position.
