Disappointing start
The 50-year-old succeeds Casemiro Mior, who was dismissed on Monday with the Lisbon club having picked up just two points from five games and in 14th position of 16 teams. Pacheco had been without a club since August when he ended his third spell with second division Boavista FC, who he previously led to the 2000/01 Liga title. That was the only time the championship has been won by a club other than SL Benfica and his Pacheco's former playing sides Sporting Clube de Portugal and FC Porto since Belenenses finished top in 1945/46.
'Ideal club'
Pacheco, who played at the 1984 UEFA European Championship and 1986 FIFA World Cup and helped Porto win the 1987 European Champion Clubs' Cup, has also coached Rio Ave FC, Vitória SC and RCD Mallorca. He said: "Belenenses is the ideal club for a new boost to my career. I want to put the club in the place where they deserve to be."
