VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach have dismissed Dutch coach Jos Luhukay with the club propping up the Bundesliga table seven matches into the season.

Extensive deliberations
Borussia president Rolf Lönigs explained the decision, saying: "The board and the football administration deliberated extensively last night. We have reached the conclusion to continue without Jos Luhukay. He won promotion for us and he has our gratitude and respect. We value him as a person and as a coach, but the current situation has prompted us to part ways with him." Luhukay stepped up from his role as assistant coach to take charge in January 2007 and guided the club to the 2. Bundesliga title last season. Former Germany international and sporting director Christian Ziege will act as caretaker coach, with the club stating they do not want to "rush into" hiring a long-term replacement.
