European achievement
Roma were looking to follow up their eye-catching 3-1 victory against Chelsea FC in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday by addressing their domestic frailties – they had lost their previous four matches in Serie A. Not for the first time, Totti seemed set to be their hero as he broke the deadlock after 68 minutes only for Cicinho to put past his own goalkeeper in stoppage time. The outcome leaves the Giallorossi a point ahead of their 18th-placed opponents, who arrested a run of three consecutive reverses with their point.
Säumel winner
Torino started the day one point ahead of Roma, having played one game more, but they eased their worries with a late Jürgen Säumel goal accounting for mid-table US Città di Palermo. The Sicilian side had Antonio Nocerino dismissed six minutes from time but appeared to have acquitted themselves well enough to earn a point only for the Austrian midfielder to open his account for Giovanni De Biasi's men, following his summer move from SK Sturm Graz, with two minutes remaining.
