Zlatan Ibrahimović struck 14 minutes from time to rescue a point for FC Internazionale Milano who kicked off the new year with a surprise 1-1 draw at home to Cagliari Calcio.

Genoa win
Inter controlled the game without making the most of their chances and they fell behind against the run of play when Robert Acquafresca fired in from the edge of the area on 65 minutes. Inter, however, were not behind for long and Ibrahimović hit back on 76 minutes with his eleventh league goal of the season when he turned in Hernán Crespo's cross. Things could have been worse for Inter had Acquafresca not missed from close range late on after pouncing on a rebound from Júlio César.

Genoa win
The result stretches Inter's lead at the top of the table to seven points, though second-placed Juventus could cut that to four should they win at home to AC Siena on Sunday. In the evening's other match, Genoa CFC climbed to fifth following a comfortable 3-0 win at home to Torino FC. Giuseppe Biava, Bosko Jankovic and Thiago Motta got the goals. AS Roma take on AC Milan in Sunday's big match.
