UEFA is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Maik Kiss – one of the longest-serving staff members within European football's governing body. Maik died on Friday after a short and sudden illness.
Since 1985
Maik Kiss, who was 49, joined UEFA in 1985 when the organisation was based in the Swiss federal capital Berne. His first duties were as a secretary in refereeing matters. More responsibility came his way after a few years, and he occupied key organisational positions within UEFA's youth, amateur, women's and futsal sectors, moving from Berne to Nyon with UEFA in 1995.
Events unit head
Since 2002, Maik had been heading the UEFA events unit, and one of his key tasks was to be entrusted with the organisation of European club football's top event, the UEFA Champions League final.
Dedicated colleague
With the passing of Maik, UEFA has lost not only a dedicated colleague, but also a friend. Trust, teamwork and friendship were key words for Maik. The thoughts of the European football family are with his wife Hortense, his daughter Patricia and his son Nicolas.
