Werder Bremen suffered their sixth defeat of the Bundesliga season on Sunday as they returned to championship action with a 2-1 home loss to DSC Arminia Bielefeld but there was more joy for relegation-threatened VfL Bochum 1848, who saw off Karlsruher SC 2-0.

Wichniarek winner
Forced to field a weakened side due to injuries and suspension, Bremen fell behind to Michael Lamey's 24th-minute opener for the visitors and, despite drawing level thanks to Hugo Almeida on 44 minutes, Artur Wichniarek gave Arminia the points four minutes after the break. The result leaves Bremen in tenth while their conquerors climbed to 14th, four points clear of the relegation zone.

Debut goal
Bochum also gave themselves some breathing space as they clawed their way out of the bottom three into 15th. Christian Fuchs put them ahead with 26 minutes gone and new signing Diego Klimowicz grabbed a debut goal in the 64th minute to help end the club's run of 13 league games without victory.
