Borislav Mihailov has been re-elected president of the Bulgarian Football Union, the 45-year-old former Bulgaria captain winning 316 out of the 338 votes polled during the sixth regular congress of the Bulgarian Football Union (BFU) on Friday.
'Great responsibility'
Mihailov won his first presidential mandate in 2005, when he succeeded Ivan Slavkov, and will now remain as president of the BFU until 2013. "I would like to thank everyone for the confidence and faith they have in me," he said. "This is a great responsibility. We will continue to work for the good of the game."
Success
Mihailov began his playing career in 1981 at PFC Levski Sofia and was part of their title-winning sides in 1984, 1985 and 1988. He also played in Portugal with CF OS Belenenses, in France with FC Mulhouse, in England with Reading FC and in Switzerland with FC Zürich as well as enjoying spells in Bulgaria with PFC Botev Plovdiv and PFC Slavia Sofia.
Most capped player
Mihailov is Bulgaria's most capped player with 102 appearances and took part in the 1986 and 1994 FIFA World Cup finals as well as UEFA EURO '96™. He was captain of the great Bulgaria side that reached the semi-final of the World Cup in 1994. He became first vice-president of the BFU in 2001 and on 21 October 2005 was elected president of the BFU for the first time.
