UEFA has declared its support for proposals by world football's governing body FIFA to abolish the rule whereby teams can field 'over-age' players in the Olympic Games football tournament.
'Excellent initiative'
The European governing body was responding to declarations by FIFA President, Joseph S Blatter, proposing to discontinue provisions in the tournament regulations whereby teams may add to the official list of players for the Olympic Games final tournament a maximum of three players who are over the age limit of 23. UEFA also welcomes proposals to lower the age limit from Under-23 to Under-20 for the tournament. "I salute the excellent initiative of President Blatter, which finds complete agreement among the European football family," said UEFA President Michel Platini on Tuesday.
