Portsmouth FC are seeking their third manager of the season after Tony Adams parted company with the club following a run where "too many points have been dropped from winning positions".
Poor results
Former Arsenal FC and England defender Adams took over at Fratton Park in October after Harry Redknapp left to take the helm at Tottenham Hotspur FC, but the side have slowly descended towards the Premier League relegation zone and were knocked out of the UEFA Cup in the group stage. Portsmouth won only four of their 21 games under Adams, 42, and now lie fifth from bottom. "The owner and the board feel they have been as supportive as they can during a period where results have been poor," said a club spokesman.
'Difficult decision'
"The team has played well but too many points have been dropped from winning positions. This has been a very difficult decision." Adams's assistant Johnny Metgod has also departed so director of youth operations Paul Hart will take over in a caretaker capacity. Portsmouth, who suffered a last-gasp 3-2 defeat by Liverpool FC at the weekend, are at home to Manchester City FC on Saturday.
