Sevilla FC will be without striker Ernesto Chevantón for the remainder of the Liga season after it was announced the Uruguayan international would undergo surgery on a cyst in his left knee.

Injury woe
Chevantón has been plagued by injury since signing for the third-placed Liga side from AS Monaco FC for €8m in 2006 with back and ankle problems restricting him to just 32 appearances in two-and-a-half seasons in Spain. This latest setback is expected to sideline the 28-year-old for up to five months. "Cheva has had difficulties with his knee, which we have tried to resolve in various ways," explained Sevilla club doctor Adolfo Muñoz. "It seemed our methods were working, because we were receiving positive results. However, in the final stages of treatment, we weren't able to fulfil our objectives. We've been discussing our options, and have come to the decision that the player will be operated on next week."
