FC Salzburg striker Marc Janko held on to top spot in the ESM Golden Shoe rankings as Lionel Messi and Diego Forlán were the only frontrunners in the race for the European goalscorer's title to score at the weekend.

Janko, who has registered 31 league goals this season, was suspended for his side's 3-0 win at LASK Linz, giving his rivals the chance to make up ground in the standings. Of the next eight players in the table, though, only Diego Forlán and Lionel Messi scored, both striking in the same game as Club Atlético de Madrid beat FC Barcelona 4-3. Forlán notched up his 16th and 17th league goals of the season to climb from ninth in the table to fifth, a position he shares with Messi who hit his 17th league goal in a losing cause.

The leading five countries (Spain, Italy, Germany, France and England) on the UEFA Ranking have two as their multiplier. This is to emphasise the difference in (international) performance level between the clubs from those countries and those from the other nations.

A player cannot first play in a summer league (eg Norway) and then in a winter league (eg Spain) and combine the points total for each season.
