UEFA social responsibility projects at UEFA EURO 2008™ come under the spotlight in an evaluation report specifically compiled for European football's governing body by the Swiss-based Schwery Consulting company.
Project impact
The study was commissioned by UEFA to assess the impact of the five social responsibility projects that were undertaken during last summer's tournament in Austria and Switzerland – EUROSCHOOLS 2008, Unite Against Racism, Fan Embassies, Score for the Red Cross, and Football for All – as well as the Respect campaign launched for the finals.
Learning process
Impact was measured against the expectations of project organisers and UEFA, with special attention given to results which may not have been anticipated, to facilitate the learning process for the future. Questionnaires, surveys, check lists, essays, interviews and observations were among the methods used by the evaluation team, and conclusions and recommendations have been provided for UEFA and project partners. "The step-up from an awareness-raising campaign in 2004 to the support of five highly ambitious FSR projects in 2008, clearly shows that UEFA is raising the bar in the field of social responsibility at major sporting events," the study says as a key point in its recommendations.
