Ekstraklasa leaders Legia Warszawa host title rivals KKS Lech Poznań this weekend in a game that, Legia midfielder Roger Guerreiro says, "the whole of Poland is waiting for".
High stakes
Legia are a point above their opponents but with third-placed Wisła Kraków just one point further back and KSP Polonia Warszawa also within striking range, the stakes cannot be higher. Roger, no stranger to big matches having played high-profile fixtures in Brazil with SC Corinthians Paulista, CR Flamengo and EC Juventude, considers Sunday's encounter to be just as appetising.
'Massive'
"The whole of Poland is waiting for this game and I am sure it is going to be full of emotion," the Brazilian-born Polish international told uefa.com. "It is such a massive match that I can only compare it to games like Corinthians v Palmeiras or Flamengo against Fluminense in my native Brazil." The 26-year-old has appeared in Rio de Janeiro's 'Fla-Flu' derby between the latter two teams and once scored a winning goal for Flamengo at the Maracanã Stadium against the side his father supported, Corinthians.
Close contest
With the top four teams separated by just four points, the season is set for an exciting finale, something Roger welcomes. "Without doubt, this is the most interesting season in Polish football for many years," said Roger, who scored his first international goal against Austria at UEFA EURO 2008™. "In previous years, one club has had a big advantage over the rest which has not made for a tense finish to the campaign. This season's champions will be known only after the final game."
On the up
Legia take on Lech having won their last three matches and kept four successive clean sheets. "Legia are playing very well at the moment, our team shape is getting better and better," added Roger, who landed in Warsaw in 2005 after a short spell at RC Celta de Vigo in Spain. "Winning these games has given us a big boost and that is why I think it is a good time to play Lech."
Title hope
Roger will be up against Lech's nine-goal midfielder Semir Stilić but warns it could be to Legia's detriment if they single out the Bosnian international for special attention. "Semir is a very good player but it would be a big mistake to focus only on him. Lech have many skilful players and we must look at them all," he said. "I have already won one Polish title with Legia in 2006 and it felt really good. I want to experience that again and think we have big chance to do it this year."
