Villa instinct points to joy for Valencia

David Villa told uefa.com he is "totally sure" two more wins will guarantee Valencia CF a place in the UEFA Champions League for next season, with the 27-year-old striker in no hurry to move away from the Spanish side.

David Villa told uefa.com he is certain two more wins will guarantee Valencia CF a UEFA Champions League place for next season, with the striker in no hurry to earn a move away from the Spanish side.

Crucial fixtures
The title may be decided but the Liga continues to churn out drama, with the penultimate round of fixtures seeing Valencia travel the 50 minutes to neighbours Villarreal CF while Club Atlético de Madrid, in the final qualifying spot for Europe's premier club competition, look to maintain their two-point advantage over Los Ché at Athletic Club Bilbao. A 1-0 loss at Atlético last weekend left Valencia fifth, but after missing out on this season's UEFA Champions League, Villa is determined to help his club return next term.

Confident prediction
"It was a pain losing to Atlético last week but I'm totally sure that our fate will be in our own hands – if we win both our remaining games we'll be in the top four," the 27-year-old Villa assured uefa.com. "OK, mathmatically that is not certain but Atlético have a very tricky game in the Basque country. It's a tough place for Atlético to go and we want Champions League football so much that we'll have to do ourselves a favour by winning in Villarreal."

Transfer talk
Top scorer as Spain won UEFA EURO 2008™, Villa's 25 Liga goals this season have kept him under constant transfer scrutiny, but the cheerful yet canny player would like to see out his current contract – a more realistic prospect if he can propel Valencia to the UEFA Champions League. "I'm happy at Valencia," he said. "I've got a good long contract. People seem to talk about what route I want to follow but that's not correct at all.

Making legends
"I'm a young lad who couldn't be happier in my family life and whose career is going well," he said. "However, just as nobody forced me to sign the new deal at Valencia, nobody gifted me anything in this life either. I believe you have to work for the good things. However well you are in your personal life you must always try to improve the sporting level of your short career. You have to use the short time you have to make your footballing name."
