FC Internazionale Milano have been crowned Serie A champions for the 17th time after city rivals AC Milan surrendered their pursuit with a 2-1 loss at Udinese Calcio.

Milan penalised
The Rossoneri had to win in north-east Italy if they hoped to force José Mourinho's side to defeat AC Siena on Sunday to secure a fourth successive Scudetto. That proved beyond them, however, as they came unstuck courtesy of a strike either side of half-time at the Stadio Friuli. Gaetano D'Agostino (31) fired the Zebrette ahead from the penalty spot for his sixth goal in his last five matches after Paolo Maldini had been penalised for handball, and Cristian Zapata (49) effectively put the title beyond Milan when he fired past Dida following D'Agostino's corner. Massimo Ambrosini's late header was scant consolation for Milan, who trail Inter by seven points with two matches left.

Seven goals
Things were just as dramatic in the capital, where Calcio Catania recovered from 3-1 down to draw level with AS Roma, only for Christian Panucci to head a last-minute winner for the Giallorossi. Simone Perrotta (12) began the scoring when he headed in Mirko Vučinić's cross before Giacomo Tedesco (15) quickly equalised. Vučinić (17) and Perrotta (31) then put Roma in command, but the Sicilians shocked the Stadio Olimpico by levelling through Giuseppe Mascara (47) and Takayuki Morimoto (72) and looked set for a point until Panucci struck.
