The 58-year-old Del Neri guided Atalanta BC to eleventh in Serie A this term but, with his contract now expired at the Bergamo outfit, he will be officially unveiled as Sampdoria boss on 3 June. No further details of the deal have been released. On Mazzarri's departure, the club said: "UC Sampdoria wish to thank Walter Mazzarri and his staff for the professional commitment shown to the squad in the last two seasons and wish him all the best in the future." Sampdoria ended the season 13th in the table, and lost the Coppa Italia final to S.S. Lazio on penalties.
