The German Football Federation (DFB) is mourning the death of long-standing DFB youth and school football board member Heinz-Herbert Kreh. The recipient of the DFB's 'Goldenen Ehrennadel' (Golden Pin of Honour) passed away last Friday at the age of 72.
Dedicated to youth football
Born in Kitzingen on 14 February 1937, Kreh dedicated his life to youth football and young players. Between 1973 and 1981, he was a member of the DFB school football board, and from 1981 until 2006 he was a member of the DFB's youth board. In October 2007, Kreh was awarded the DFB's Golden Pin of Honour by the association's president Dr Theo Zwanziger for his years of service to German football.
National amateur team
In addition, Kreh, who made 19 appearances for the German amateur national team and played six times for the German students' national team, was an honorary member of the South German Football Federation. He was also acknowledged for his services with the Bavarian Football Federation 'Goldene Ehrennadel'.
UEFA committee member
Kreh was also a long-time servant of European football within UEFA bodies. He became a member of the UEFA Youth Committee in 1988, and was vice-chairman from 1994 to 2000. From 2000 to 2006, he was a member of the UEFA Youth and Amateur Football Committee, and a member of the Fun Football panel from 1996 to 2000. Kreh also served as a UEFA match delegate from 2000 to 2009.
