FC Dynamo Kyiv required penalties against FC Vorskla Poltava to win the Ukrainian Super Cup for the third time in four seasons, earning new coach Valeri Gazzaev his first trophy at the helm.

Even match
The season curtain-raiser ended scoreless despite being rich in goalmouth activity and the spot-kick decider was eventually settled by the hands of 34-year-old Dynamo custodian Olexandr Shovkovskiy. The capital club were without several players but started brightly, although Vorskla created an equal number of chances. Dynamo debutant Evgeni Khacheridi presented the first opportunity to Vorskla's Jovan Markoski but the Macedonian could not convert.

Shovkovskiy save
Gazzaev's side, who lost Olexandr Aliyev during the game with a leg injury, replied with dangerous shots from Artem Milevskiy and Andriy Yarmolenko. In the second half, Ukrainian Cup holders Vorskla wasted three chances to go ahead and, at the other end, Miloš Ninković failed to break the deadlock twice in the last eight minutes. In the shoot-out Shovkovskiy, only playing in the absence of Stanislav Bogush, denied Vladimir Despotovski and forced Armend Dallku to fail with his attempt while all four Dynamo players found the net.
