AZ win maiden Dutch Super Cup

AZ Alkmaar ensured Ronald Koeman enjoyed a first competitive game to remember in charge of the Eredivisie champions by overwhelming SC Heerenveen 5-1 to claim the Dutch Super Cup for the first time.

First-half goals
Koeman's side, who enter the UEFA Champions League at the group stage, were three goals to the good inside half an hour at the Amsterdam ArenA. Maarten Martens teed up Brett Holman for the opener after 15 minutes, a lead which was soon doubled by Mounir El Hamdaoui – last season's 23-goal Eredivisie top scorer – who finished off Jeremain Lens' neat back-heel. Having set up the opener, Maartens added the third just before the break with a shot from the edge of the penalty area.

Lens double
Michal Papadopoulos reduced the arrears for Heerenveen, Dutch Cup winners last term, on the hour but any hope they had of staging a late recovery were ended by Lens. The 21-year-old striker curled in the fourth with eight minutes remaining and put the seal on an emphatic victory with a diving header in added time.
