Diego struck his first two goals since a summer move to Juventus in a 3-1 victory at AS Roma and the Bianconeri are joined on the six-point maximum by UC Sampdoria, Genoa CFC and S.S. Lazio.

Brazilian treble
Playmaker Diego, a €24.5m summer purchase from Werder Bremen, opened his account for Juve after 25 minutes when he robbed Marco Cassetti before clipping a sublime finish past Júlio Sérgio. But Roma, who were also beaten on the opening day of the season at Genoa, levelled ten minutes later when Daniele De Rossi rifled in a quick free-kick from distance. Francesco Totti missed a presentable chance to give the home side the lead and they paid the penalty on 68 minutes when Diego drilled in a low finish. Totti then hit the post before Juve's other Brazilian summer signing, Felipe Melo, raced from the halfway line to drive in an added-time third.

Buoyant Genoa
Sampdoria are ahead of Juventus on goals scored after they overcame Udinese Calcio 3-1 while their city rivals Genoa won 1-0 away to Atalanta BC thanks to Emiliano Moretti (45). Julio Cruz scored both goals for Lazio in their 2-1 victory away to AC Chievo Verona. Other two-goal matchwinners were Emanuele Calaiò in AC Siena's 3-1 success at Cagliari Calcio and SSC Napoli's Fabio Quagliarella, whose side beat AS Livorno Calcio 3-1. Elsewhere, Parma FC edged Calcio Catania 2-1 and a Stevan Jovetić strike provided three points for ACF Fiorentina versus US Città di Palermo.
