Striker Blaise Nkufo equalled a club goalscoring record as FC Twente kicked off the Dutch season in impressive fashion, with the Swiss international saying: "It is very special to become a part of the history of this club."
Significant strike
Steve McClaren's side commenced their UEFA Champions League campaign last week with a ten-man 0-0 draw at Sporting Clube de Portugal in their third qualifying round opener, while their first league fixture ended in a 2-0 win at Sparta Rotterdam on Saturday. Nkufo's 18th-minute opener means he is now level with De Tukkers' legend Jan Jeuring's mark of 103 league goals, scored in 326 games between 1966 and 1977.
No expectations
"It is very special to become a part of the history of this club," said the 24-times capped Kinshasa-born forward, 34, who joined Twente in 2003. "When I arrived here at this club I never expected to score so many goals, but I did not do it all by myself and I have to thank my team-mates, the fans and everyone at the club who always have supported me in that time."
Goalscoring momentum
The former FC Lausanne-Sports, Echallens FC, Al-Arabi, Yverdon-Sports FC, Grasshopper-Club, FC Lugano, FC Luzern, 1. FSV Mainz 05 and Hannover 96 striker took just 192 games to match Jeuring's record, and will now look to take his goalscoring form into Europe. He has not scored a UEFA Champions League goal since registering twice in Grasshoppers' 6-0 win against AS Jeunesse Esch in the 1998/99 qualifiers.
