French champions FC Girondins de Bordeaux wasted no time in registering their first victory of the new campaign, seeing off promoted RC Lens 4-1 at the Stade Chaban-Delmas to clinch a record 12th consecutive Ligue 1 win.
Gourcuff double
Wendel opened the scoring for Laurent Blanc's men with a superb curled effort on 12 minutes, but they took their foot off the pedal towards the end of the first half and were pegged back when Issam Jemaa headed a 40th-minute leveller. They showed no such laxity after the break, however, and Yoann Gourcuff put the hosts back ahead with a deflected effort eight minutes into the second period. The French international schemer then added the final blow in added time, finishing off a counterattacking move seconds after Marouane Chamakh had fired in Bordeaux's third.
Lille defeat
If that outcome offered little in the way of a surprise, FC Lorient posted an unexpected 2-1 triumph at UEFA Europa League play-off round aspirants LOSC Lille Métropole. Fine strikes by Kevin Gameiro (33) and Marama Vahirua (52) secured all three points for the visitors, with Olivier Monterrubio's 66th-minute own goal all Lille had to show for their dominance.
