The UEFA Champions League holders, FC Barcelona, and the winners of the last UEFA Cup, FC Shakhtar Donetsk, will meet at the Stade Louis II in Monaco on Friday 28 August, kicking-off at 20:45, with the 2009 UEFA Super Cup at stake. Prior to the event, the two clubs will stage Media Open Days, when the international media will have the opportunity to gain access to both teams.
FC Barcelona will hold their open day on Thursday 20 August at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper, Sant Joan Despí. A fully open training session at 19:00 CET will be followed by a mixed zone with players. Media representatives are kindly asked to inform of their presence by emailing premsa@fcbarcelona.cat
FC Shakhtar Donetsk will hold their media open day on Friday 21 August at their Kirsha Training Camp. A press conference with head coach Mircea Lucescu and key players will take place at 17:00 local time followed by an open training session. Media representatives wishing to attend are kindly asked to email Anna Fesenko at postmaster@shakhtar.com.
As for the teams' schedules in Monaco, the following arrangements have been made:
Pre-match press conferences will be staged on Thursday 27 August at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco, the setting for the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League draws.
• FC Barcelona, represented by Josep Guardiola and a player, at 13:30.
• FC Shakhtar Donetsk, represented by Mircea Lucescu and a player, at 14:00.
Training sessions at the Stade Louis II will also take place on the evening of Thursday 27 August:
• FC Shakhtar Donetsk from 19:00 to 20:00 – open to media for the first 15 minutes.
• FC Barcelona from 20:15 to 21:15 – fully open to media.
Only media who have successfully applied to UEFA for accreditation for the Super Cup match may attend the training sessions, whereas the press conferences at the Grimaldi Forum will also be open to media accredited for the club competition draws.
