VfL Wolfsburg's 20-game unbeaten home run in the Bundesliga came to a dramatic end as Hamburger SV earned a fine 4-2 away win, while Werder Bremen put three past VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach on Sunday.

Hamburg push on
The German champions lost their first game of the season on home soil, and were 2-0 down within ten minutes of kick-off as José Paolo Guerrero's effort was followed by Eljero Elia's first for his new club. Armin Veh's side restored parity after the break, with Zvezdjan Misimović and Obafemi Martins striking within the space of four minutes, but Mladen Petrić put Hamburg's ahead again and Romeo Castelen capped the victory in added time with his first goal in three seasons at the club.

Bremen buoyant
Hamburg are level with Bayer 04 Leverkusen and FC Schalke 04 on seven points at the top of the table, while Bremen are now seventh after two goals from Claudio Pizarro and one from Naldo earned them a 3-0 win – their first of the sesason – at home against Mönchengladbach. The day's other game ended well for VfL Bochum 1848, who triumphed 1-0 at home against Hertha BSC Berlin, with French-born Algeria defender Anthar Yahia scoring the only goal.
