Yoan Gouffran scored the only goal as FC Girondins de Bordeaux returned to the top of Ligue 1 with a 1-0 win against Grenoble Foot 38, with Olympique Lyonnais and surprise-package Montpellier Hérault SC lying second and third.

Spirited display
Jaroslav Plašil teed up Gouffran to score from close range just 18 minutes into the late game in France, but Grenoble had nothing to be ashamed of at the end of the 90 minutes, a spirited performance belying their position at the foot of the table. The result returned the French champions to the top of Ligue 1, above Olympique Lyonnais on goal difference.

Unusual position
Lyon also prevailed by a solitary goal as Michael Bastos headed in substitute Sidney Govou's cross 18 minutes from time to make the decisive breakthrough at home to stubborn FC Lorient. It was the same for Montpellier too, as they moved into the top three for the first time since 29 August 1992 thanks to Alberto Costa's penalty against another promoted side, RC Lens.

Marseille winner
Olympique de Marseille are level on points with Montpellier after Brandão's goal 20 minutes from time earned a 2-1 victory at Le Mans UC 72. Pierre-Alain Frau's effort for LOSC Lille Métropole proved to be enough to see off FC Sochaux-Montbéliard, while AS Nancy-Lorraine and Toulouse FC could not conjure a strike between them at the Stade Marcel Picot. Valenciennes FC and US Boulogne also ended up with a point apiece after a 1-1 draw.
