APOEL FC have made their first major signing since reaching the UEFA Champions League group stage, with Cyprus international Athos Solomou midfielder arriving on a free transfer.

'Always contenders'
The 23-year-old former Apollon Limassol FC player has signed a three-year contract and said: "I have signed for the Cypriot champions; a team that are always contenders and are the best in Cyprus." APOEL visit Club Atlético de Madrid in their first Group D game next week, but the twice-capped Solomou will not be able to play for them in Europe this autumn, having signed after the competition deadline.
