Aston Villa FC got the better of their city rivals Birmingham City FC thanks to Gabriel Agbonlahor's goal six minutes from time while Fulham FC came from behind to beat fellow UEFA Europa League hopefuls Everton FC 2-1.
Late header
Birmingham lost 5-1 the last time they met Villa and although they never looked likely to fall to a similar fate, the hosts offered little to suggest a second league win of the season would be forthcoming. Alex McLeish's side edged a laboured second half at St Andrew's before John Carew's header was nodded in by England striker Agbonlahor in the 85th minute to condemn them to defeat and send Villa sixth.
Duff winner
Fulham and Everton were both in the unfamiliar territory of the relegation zone at kick-off at Craven Cottage but the hosts are now in the top half after recording their second win of the campaign. Tim Cahill put David Moyes's side in front in trademark style on 33 minutes, stealing a march on the Fulham defence to head in a Leighton Baines free-kick. The second half belonged to Fulham, however, as they restored parity on 57 minutes through Paul Konchesky's heavily-deflected effort before taking the lead eleven minutes from time in less fortuitous circumstances when Damien Duff cut in from the right and fired a delightful shot beyond the reach of Tim Howard. Everton rallied but to no avail and remain second from bottom ahead of the visit of AEK Athens FC on Thursday.
