HB Tórshavn brushed off a recent sticky spell to claim the Faroese championship for the 20th time, beating KÍ Klaksvík 4-2 to take an unassailable lead over defending champions EB/Streymur.
Early fillip
Just two points from their previous four games looked to have opened the door for HB's title rivals, but Sámal Erik Hentze's side looked certain victors from the off against KÍ. Hans á Lag gave the hosts a second-minute advantage from which their visitors, who were four down by the early stages of the second half, never recovered. Two late goals for KÍ put a dent in HB's lead but it never looked likely to be enough to scupper their celebrations. "I'm extremely happy," said Lag. "It was a goal for me [to win the title] and it was a goal for the team."
Game to spare
Victory took the team from the Faroese capital five points clear of their nearest challengers with just one match remaining and therefore wrapped up the 20th top-flight triumph in their history. "This is big, I have always dreamt of this," said HB coach Hentze. "I hadn't expected it to happen this early in my career, but fantastic, fantastic." Defeat leaves KÍ needing to win and overturn a goal difference deficit of nine on B36 Tórshavn to avoid relegation on the final day.
