There is no stopping FC Barcelona's winning start to their Liga title defence after Pedro Rodríguez's superb goal proved enough to beat UD Almería 1-0 at Camp Nou.

Six out of six
Fresh from his clinching goal in Tuesday's 2-0 UEFA Champions League defeat of FC Dynamo Kyiv, Pedro scored for the first time in the Liga, giving Diego Alves no chance of stopping his 31st-minute shot on the turn. It makes it six wins from as many league games this season for Barcelona, including four clean sheets. Real Madrid CF will attempt to keep pace and rejoin their Catalan rivals at the summit when they visit third-placed Sevilla FC in Sunday's fixtures. RC Deportivo La Coruña are fourth after Diego Colotto's 61st-minute header gave them a 1-0 win at CD Tenerife.

Atlético rise
In the late game Club Atlético de Madrid escaped the bottom three with a 2-1 defeat of Real Zaragoza. José Manuel Jurado struck for Atlético early on and although home goalkeeper David de Gea conceded a penalty on 19 minutes, he made amends by denying Marko Babić. Antonio López's free-kick midway through the second half doubled the lead and although Ewerthon did beat the impressive De Gea with a spot-kick 19 minutes from time, Atlético held on and now Málaga CF are in the drop zone.
