UEFA President Michel Platini has visited the Israel Football Association for talks with the association's president Avraham Luzon, who is also a member of the UEFA Executive Committee. Discussions between the two centred on the development of football in Israel.
Promoting positive values
During his visit, Mr Platini also held talks with the President of Israel, Shimon Peres. Mr Platini expressed the view that football promotes positive values such as peace, tolerance and friendship. At the meeting in Jerusalem, Mr Peres and Mr Platini discussed ways in which football can bring communities together and help heal conflicts. In December 2006, the two men were instrumental in bringing together a team of Israeli and Palestinian players for a special Peace Match against a team from Andalusia, Spain.
