David Trezeguet reflected on an "important achievement" after scoring his 167th goal in all competitions for Juventus on Saturday to join Omar Sivori as the fourth highest scorer in the club's history.

Important number
Fielded despite being short of fitness in the match at Atalanta BC with all of the club's other forwards injured or suspended, the 32-year-old's commitment was rewarded, with the final goal in a 5-2 win moving him level with Sivori. "I'm really happy, it's an important achievement," said the man known as 'TrezeGol'. "I never thought I would have caught Sivori when I arrived here."

Target achieved
Argentinian forward Sivori represented Juventus from 1957 to 1965, winning three Serie A titles and being named European Footballer of the Year in 1961. His 167-goal haul for the club made him the highest scoring foreign player ever to represent Juventus, but he now has company in that regard. "I really wanted to reach Sivori's tally and I am so happy that I did it," said Trezeguet.

Main objective
Signed from AS Monaco FC in 2000, it took Trezeguet 290 games to reach his predecessor's mark – Sivori, who died in 2005 at the age of 69, reached the same total in 253 – and while he is no longer guaranteed a starting place for Juventus or France, his record speaks for itself. He has also lost none of his hunger, adding: "My main objective now is to score another goal, because I would really like to surpass Sivori."

'Something wonderful'
Roberto Bettega (178 goals, 1970-83), Giampiero Boniparto (182, 1946-61) and team-mate Alessandro Del Piero (262, 1993-) remain ahead of Trezeguet in the club's all-time scorers rankings, and for Bianconeri coach Ciro Ferrara the two-time Italian titlewinner and 2002 Serie A Player of the Year deserves his place in the realm of Juve legends. "He hasn't always played this season; sometimes he's had to sit on the bench, but he has behaved like a professional," said the former centre-back, who played alongside Trezeguet from 2000-05. "He is a big part of Juventus' history and to see him working with the same enthusiasm he had when he started playing with us, well, it's something wonderful."
